IFR building to be leased by hospital trust

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust and the Institute of Food Research (IFR) have agreed terms for the 20 year lease of a building on the Norwich Research Park for hospital use.

The 2865 sq m building, known as IFR3, will be used by the hospital to house the new Radiology Academy, that Norwich will be getting from 2005. IFR3 will also become home to the hospital trust's Cellular Pathology service

Trust Director of Facilities David Walsh said: "We are pleased to have been able to agree terms for the leasing of IFR3 with the Institute of Food Research. The building is on the research park next to the hospital, provides a natural home for the new Radiology Academy and will also provide much-needed extra space for our Pathology service."

IFR's Contracts Manager Mrs Sandie Johnson said "We are delighted that our extensive scientific collaboration with staff at the hospital will now be cemented by a physical space collaboration with our research council, the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council."

In September the Department of Health and Royal College of Radiologists announced the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) would spearhead a new approach to radiology training in the UK. The announcement meant NNUH will become home to one of only three new Radiology Academies in the country, the others being Plymouth and Leeds.

The hospital's Cellular Pathology service is due to move into IFR3 in the summer of 2004, with the Radiology Academy due to open in 2005.
