About the InCrops project

Purpose and significance of the project

IFR is a partner in the Innovation in Crops (InCrops) Enterprise Hub.  The Enterprise Hub is based on the Norwich Research Park but organized across the East of England and involves thirteen partners. The project will expand the business support and commercialisation opportunities in the alternative and non-food crops sector in the East of England promoting crop derived bio-renewable near market research, supply chain development and product development.


The objectives of the InCrops enterprise hub are to:

  • stimulate through new business assistance and activity the commercialisation of new biorenewable and low carbon products from alternative and non food crop feedstocks
  • in order to stimulate new business activity lever out the East of England's world class research capability in plant and crop science
  • to support the business and commercial sector and stimulate sustainable economic growth through supply chain development, market integration and product innovation
  • accelerate the rate of successful technology transfer into the business and commercial environment
  • through new exploitation platforms widen the scope for technology transfer
  • proactively support commercialisation through business spin outs and business incubation support in the East of England

The Partners

The core scientific partners are the University of East Anglia, the Institute of Food Research, the John Innes Centre, the Norwich Research Park, Rothamsted Research, the Building Research Establishment, the National Institute for Agricultural Botany, The University of Essex, The University of Cambridge (Department of Plant Sciences), Renewables East, Easton College, Forestry Commission and the National Non-Food Crops Centre.
