Welcome
Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) methods are used at the Institute
of Food Research (IFR) to study complex biological systems that
are of importance in food and agriculture. Probe microscopes
are used, in conjunction with a variety of other biophysical
techniques, in order to explain the behaviour of biological
structures at the molecular level.
More about SPM at IFR...
Research into SPM methods at the Institute of Food Research is undertaken by:
- Vic Morris
- Andrew R. Kirby
- A. Patrick Gunning
- Nicola Woodward

Force Microscopy for Biologists (Second Edition) V.J. Morris, A.R. Kirby and A.P. Gunning (Pub: Imperial College Press)
To biologists AFM offers the prospect of high resolution images of biological material, images of molecules and their interactions even under physiological conditions, and the study of molecular processes in living systems. This book provides a realistic appreciation of the advantages and limitations of the technique and the present and future potential for improving the understanding of biological systems. |
