What is RSS?
RSS is an easy way for you to get automatic updates on news from IFR. Instead of having to go to the website to see if a new article has been published, you can use RSS (which stands for Really Simple Syndication) to get the site to tell you every time it has something new. It's known as subscribing to an RSS feed.
How can I make use of RSS?
You need to get hold of a program called a News Reader. Recent versions of most e-mail applications (Microsoft Outlook) and web browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox) are capable of managing your RSS feeds as well. These displays RSS information feeds from your chosen websites on your computer. All you then have to do is choose which RSS feeds you want to subscribe to.
How can I sign up to the IFR's RSS feed?
You then need to follow the instructions for your News Reader in order to add the IFR feed to your RSS list. It's usually very simple. You may need to paste the URL http://www.ifr.ac.uk/ifr_rss.xml into your News Reader.
Once you've subscribed, every time you run your News Reader program, the program will tell you if there are any news items that you've not read before in the feeds you've subscribed to, and you will then be able to read the headlines and introduction to each item without having to go to the website. It can save you a lot of time.
