Award for IFR scientist

IFR post-doctoral scientist Valeria Giosafatto has been awarded a prize for her work on the enzyme transglutaminase as a biotechnological tool for the production of edible films to be used in active packaging. 

‘Premio Montana’ are Italian awards aimed at young researchers working in food science.  Winners are selected on the originality of the idea, quality of experimental methodology and how applicable the research is to consumer needs, and prizes were presented at an award ceremony in Rome on 23rd June 2010, attended by many leading scientists and food industry figures.

The research was led by Professors Loredana Mariniello, Raffaele Porta and Prospero Di Pierro of the Department of Food Science at the University of Naples Federico II.   The prize is accompanied by an award of 10,000 Euros to fund research in the laboratory.
