Prize-winning allergy poster
16th July 2010
Dr Thomas Aldick won a prize for his poster at the 29th Congress of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI2010). Thomas' poster, ''Are matrix-mediated modifications of Mal d 1 responsible for the lability of its allergenic activity?" was selected for a prize from the JMA Poster Session on Saturday 5th June.
The Congress, held in London, attracted over 8,000 participants from 109 countries world wide with a total number of 2,058 abstracts presented in 224 sessions.
EAACI's mission is to develop and spread knowledge in the field of allergy, asthma and immunology, and in particular to apply knowledge for the benefit of people with allergic disease.
Thomas has been studying birch pollen related food allergens from apple and celeriac to understand how exposure to food matrix mediates chemical modifications of the allergens and alters its allergenic activity. He is here as a research fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
