Human Nutrition Unit (HNU)
The Human Nutrition Unit strives to support the advancement of nutrition research by facilitating the conduct of nutrition intervention studies according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The HNU has over 15 years experience and expertise in human nutrition intervention studies and offers a professional, user-friendly environment for both staff and study participants.
The HNU has a variable complement of registered general nurses and diet cooks. The HNU nurse manager and senior scientist hold certificates in Clinical Research and Good Clinical Practice (CertCRGCP). All researchers conducting human studies in the HNU have undertaken a human studies training program tailored to the requirements of each study.
Services available
- Advice on study design, protocol development, and submission to research governance and ethics committees.
- Assistance with recruitment, including the use of the HNU volunteer database.
- Anthropometry
- Clinical procedures e.g. phlebotomy, cannulations, vaccinations and intravenous administration)
- Food/Meal preparation including menu design.
