Providing food science solutions - fast!

The Institute of Food Research in Norwich is internationally recognised for its strategic and applied research on food, diet and health issues. Responding to repeated demand, they have now made their expertise available in the form of rapid contract research services to companies in the food and allied sectors via a new subsidiary, ‘IFR Extra’.

Headed up by Managing Director and Analytical Chemist Reg Wilson, with Microbiologist Tim Brocklehurst as Head of Consultancy, the new company is undertaking short-term applied research, trouble-shooting and specialist analysis, making IFR’s expertise available and affordable to all companies.

The team not only have newly refurbished laboratories adjacent to IFR’s main buildings, but can also access  the full range of experts and resources in the Institute and wider across the Norwich Research Park. They aim to provide a cost-effective, confidential service underpinned by a group of highly-respected consultants covering Microbiology, Authentication, Food Materials Science, Retail Analysis, Product Development, Legislation, Product Marketing, Polymers and Packaging and Nutritional advice.

Through his microbiological expertise Head of Consultancy, Tim Brocklehurst has outstanding relationships with industry clients. “Interest in what we can offer has been very strong” he comments “and we have had to move fast to find additional staff to carry out client projects. We are particularly pleased to have recruited Company Microbiologist, Kirrilly Wilson.”

Kirrilly is a graduate biologist/microbiologist whose previous employer was Kraft Foods in Port Melbourne, Australia where she shared in management of the microbiology laboratories, in addition to providing technical support to both he manufacturing facility & product developers.
Kirrilly has HACCP (application & development) & food safety training experience in addition to her specialised investigational work and trouble shooting.
