The Institute of Food Research's new format website
is launched today. The site has been completely redesigned to reflect
current research and the varying requirements of our audiences. Our
visitors vary from very senior academics to school students researching
GCSE projects. Visit ifr.bbsrc.ac.uk now and see the difference.
Visitors will see substantial developments in the way
we present information. Research issues will be the key - leading visitors
straight into our science. The sections designed for specific audiences
are now available from the top level, making navigation more intuitive. We
also recognise that many of our visitors do not have English as a first
language, so introductory information is available in a total of 12
languages.
There is an extended section for the food industry
showing how IFR can make a difference to agro-food business. Visit this
area for information on our international activities and industrial links.
'In the community' leads into IFR's work to improve public access
to science, including the Community Science Challenge. This section also
contains information on a variety of food related topics for use by school
students, teachers and the public.
"We have tried to make the website as friendly as
possible for the wide variety of users who visit us" said Catherine
Reynolds, Head of Communications. "We spent a lot of time getting the
navigation right, and would like to thank all the team at Aalto Designs
for their expertise and commitment to the project"
The Institute has been in the forefront of internet
communication, having first launched its website in November 1994, long
before it became an essential part of any organisation's communication
strategy.
The site, currently around 200 pages, will be
continuously updated, with substantial amounts of information due to be
added in the next two months. The site is compatible with both major
browser software packages and a variety of screen sizes. The site URL is
unchanged: www.ifr.ac.uk, as are those for IFR hosted websites.
