Research interests
- Research area: the role of mucus in intestinal host-bacteria homeostasis
- Special interests: structure-function studies of (1) bacterial adhesins involved in mucus regognition and protein-glycan interactions (2) glycosidases involved in oligo- and polysaccharides and mucus-degradation (3) the intestinal mucus layer (expression, thickness, glycosylation) and impact of host and bacteria on mucus properties using ex vivo intestinal and in vivo mouse models.
- Participating Investigator of the Consortium for Functional Glycomics
- Steering Committee member of Glycosciences in Norwich- GlycoNOW
- Scientific organisor of the Royal Society Chemistry Carbohydrate Group Meeting- Sugars in Norwich, 15-16 Sept 2009, IFR, Norwich and the 5th European Symposium on Enzymes in Grain Processing held in Norwich 31 March-2nd April 2008.
