Fast-track studentships are most suitable for students who already have some previous experience in research. The student requires funding for three years to undertake a research project and write the PhD dissertation. If required, there is an additional unfunded Registration-only year in which to complete writing up and submit the thesis.
These studentships are similar to the 3-year PhD described above except that the student requires four years of funding of fees and stipend. The first three years will be devoted to experimental work and related training. Students should aim to submit their thesis dissertation during their 4th year whilst also using their final 6 months to complete manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and to pursue other career-enhancing activities. The student has a four-year period of study and no registration only period.
